The Heroes in Recovery movement is growing fast. We’ve hosted thousands of participants in 6K races all over the country, rallying together to break the stigma of addiction and mental health issues.

So far, Heroes in Recovery races have taken over 12 different cities. Some participants run to celebrate their own recovery, while others walk to remember a loved one they lost to addiction. But our races aren’t just about crossing the finish line — they’re about bringing together a community to support local charities and #BreakTheStigma surrounding addiction and mental health issues.

No matter where your finish line is, your virtual participation at home makes a tangible difference all over the country.

You’ve got your kit, now join the conversation!

VIRTUAL FAQ

I’m excited about running a #Heroes6K virtually! Tell me everything I need to know.

One of the many benefits of a virtual race is that you can run or walk anytime, anywhere! The only person you’re competing against is yourself, so take the 6K at a pace that works best for you. Virtual races eliminate everything that may keep you from running a race in person, from early morning alarms to inclement race day weather and long registration lines. Create a team to support one of our many charity beneficiaries and invite your friends and family to join you! Share your results and your favorite selfie with us online, and we’ll send you a finisher’s virtual kit full of swag at the end of the month.

Can anyone participate?

You bet! Even your furry friends are welcome to participate in a #Heroes6K virtual race. Take this opportunity to invite others to join you in breaking the stigma of addiction and mental health issues. The more, the merrier!

What if I don’t classify myself as a runner?

Lucky for you, running isn’t required! It doesn’t matter how you log your miles — or, really, if you log them at all. What does matter? Raising awareness so we can continue to #BreakTheStigma surrounding addiction and mental health issues. How you choose to complete your #Heroes6K is up to you. Get creative and run it, walk it, skip it, jump rope it, swim it or row it. The possibilities are endless!

Where/how do I submit my results?

Post a selfie of your participation and/or a picture of your results to our Facebook page!

How do I track my running time and distance?

You can track your distance and time however works best for you! Personally, we love using free apps that are available on a variety of devices. Here are some of our favorites: MapMyRun / MapMyWalk, Runkeeper and Strava

Do I have to submit my results to receive my finisher’s package?

Not at all! If you’d rather keep your results private, that’s A-Okay with us. Do what makes you comfortable!

How much is shipping?

No need to worry — it’s covered in your registration fee! Hooray!

When will my #Heroes6K goodies come in the mail?

Trust us, we’re just as excited to ship it as you are to receive it! We’ll be sending your finisher’s box at the end of the month, regardless of when you completed your race, so hang tight and engage with us on social media in the meantime. We’re pretty fun, if we do say so ourselves!

Can I make an additional donation to a specific charity?

Of course you can! In fact, we encourage it! Here are links to donate directly to one of our charity beneficiaries. Each one of these organizations is working hard to #BreakTheStigma, and we’re proud to cheer them on.

Turning Point Home (San Diego, CA)
Principio (Orange County, CA)
SafeHouse of the Desert (Palm Springs, CA)
Grace House of Memphis (Memphis, TN)
MARR’s Right Side Up (Atlanta, GA)
The Next Door (Nashville, TN)
Fellowship Foundation (South Florida)
Step One Recovery Housing (Phoenix, AZ)
New Directions for Youth (Malibu, CA)
Hooper Detox for Central Concern (Portland, OR)
Austin Recovery (Austin, TX)

How will you know if I completed my 6K?

That’s the funny thing — we won’t. Our mission, at its core, is to #BreakTheStigma and continue supporting local charities who are committed to doing the same. If you’re on board with that, that’s enough for us. But we love seeing your faces and watching you raise awareness in your community and on social media, so, at the very least, do us a solid and share a goofy selfie!

A 6K sounds intimidating. Do I have to run it all at once?

Don’t underestimate yourself! There’s no pressure to run at an Olympic pace, or even to run at all. Listen to your body and take it at a pace that works best for you. Whether you run, walk or crawl, the important thing is the reason behind your run. We believe in you!

If I can’t run due to an injury, can I get a refund?

Don’t sweat it! The beauty of a virtual race is that you have a whole year to complete it. So take it easy, easy back into your old exercise routines slowly and complete your #Heroes6K when you feel up to it! And hey, be careful out there!

I registered for a traditional Heroes 6K in my town. What if I can’t make it on race day?

Great news! You are welcome to switch over to a virtual participant and run the race on your own time. Just email us at [email protected] and we can get you switched over. (Please note, there may be a price difference and your credit card on file will be charged the difference).
