My name is Bobbie. I chose to get sober 18 years ago on July 27, 1997. It has been a long hard struggle but it has been a very positive battle for me. I have learned to be self-sufficient, live on my own, and work, do everything I could not have done when I was using. In the last twelve years, I have helped several people get on the right track, get sober, taken people into my home, and sponsor those who needed help. Even being here at the Heroes 6k San Diego Walk is part of my recovery.
It’s been a hard road, I still think about using and I still have my dreams. However, if it was not for the program and watching others come into the program, I would not have stayed sober. I may be an old timer but I am still a new person because I am learning every day a new reason to stay sober.
My sponsees keep me positive and keep me on my toes. They also help me work the steps over again. Watching my sponsees grow lets me grow with them and it lets me get sober again with them!
