George has worked at a treatment center in Tennessee for three years. He saw our run and decided to come out to Leiper’s Fork to attend. He is in recovery and is celebrating ten years of freedom from meth.
His recovery started with working the 12 steps with another addict. This friend worked at a treatment facility, and George was able to move in with him and get guidance. Today George works at that same facility supporting the staff and offering follow-up case management. He works in a long-term rehab facility with around 30 clients at a time.
George attends three to five meetings inside the facility every week and two or three outside to keep his sobriety stable. He has a sponsor and actively works the steps.
When asked what advice he would like to give to somebody considering recovery, he answered, “Be open-minded. There is hope. Always look at others in the fellowship and remember if they could do it, you can do it.”
He had a great time running the 6K with its extra kilometer that represents the extra every addict has to go to get recovery.
