Dee grew up in California and tried drugs as early as age 12. It started with alcohol and marijuana, and at the end she was using heroin or anything else that was available at the moment. Her family did not know how to help her since she refused to get treatment, left early, or simply didn’t participate in the program. It took her many years to find out that people sent her to treatment because they loved her and not because they wanted to punish her for anything.
The last time she was sent by her parents, something happened early in treatment. At meetings she saw other people who were laughing, free and seeming to have a great life. She decided it was time to change her life. This time she actively participated and made her own decision to stay in a sober living home after treatment. She has 65 days of sobriety and drug-free living and feels healthier and more active than ever before.
The relationship with her parents is still complicated, but she hopes they will see that this time she is different in her approach towards change. She is struggling to find a job since her education suffered from the substance use, but she hopes that she will get the opportunity for a new start soon. She likes to tell any reader that struggles just like her, “Do not give up trying! Your day will come!”
