Sarah went to treatment and had over four months of time lived clean and sober before she relapsed. Her relapse was hard on her, and she is very proud that she had the courage to come back and try again. Her new friends in recovery played a major role in this decision, and she believes that her comeback after relapse was a turning point for her. She now looks at recovery in a different way. Since returning to treatment she has one month of sobriety.
A suicide attempt showed Sarah the urgent need for treatment. She has a long history of alcohol abuse and knows she is an alcoholic. Today Sarah knows that she does not feel better if she uses or drinks. She is still struggling with relationships at home and at her temporary residence, but she is taking this challenge, like everything else, one day at a time. She believes that she has only today; this helps her to not look too far into the future. Sarah is concentrating on living in the present.
“Hang on,” she says. “It’s not going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it!”
