We always say that alcoholics and addicts hate two things the most: Anything changing and anything staying the same. I’m one of the lake people. I love to take a boat out on Kentucky Lake in the summer and just jump in the water. It may not be the cleanest water on earth, but a shower will take care of it and I try not to drink it. I just love the feeling of nature by choosing the lake and the sunshine.

Being a victim is just the problem that I can’t grow out of it until I admit that it’s not the doctor’s fault that I suffer, not my parent’s either, not society’s fault, not God’s fault, or whoever might be on my list at times. I have to admit, that it’s my own responsibility to break out of this cycle and do something pro-active about my disease in order to grow.

When thinking about activities most people forget that relaxing is a needed form of spending time. Self-care in recovery is very important. You want to make sure to always get enough sleep and rest in general. Sometimes it’s just a great day to lie in a hammock in the backyard and read a book, be under the umbrella by the pool watching people having fun, or sitting in a street cafe with a latte or cappuccino with the world going by.
