I Believe

“I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing; kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”– Audrey Hepburn

“I do believe we’re all connected. I do believe in positive energy. I do believe in the power of prayer. I do believe in putting good out into the world. And I believe in taking care of each other.”– Harvey Fierstein

“I believe in living today. Not in yesterday, nor in tomorrow.” – Loretta Young

The definition of “Believe” is to accept something as true and to feel sure of that truth.

This reminds me of faith. Having faith in something is to accept it as truth. In my life (I can only speak for myself), I question at times what I believe or not.

I may be strange because I do not question my faith. I know where it lies. I have seen the fruits of faith. I have never been let down by my faith. I may have been disappointed in the final results of situations that I had faith in, but never doubted, in the end, that things happened the way they were meant to happen.

I was speaking with my sponsor today and we were talking about expectations, because they sometimes end in heartache. At the end of the day, we only have expectations of ourselves, and sometimes we even  disappoint the person we see looking back at us in the mirror.

What do I truly believe in right now? I believe in myself. I gratefully believe in the words of a few people in my life and know I can take what they tell me to heart, head, and soul. I believe I will stay sober one day at a time.

I believe in my girls and that I am a mother who strives to do the best she can. I believe I am a hard worker. I believe I have a huge, bright heart once again, because for so long it was hard and dark.

I believe in recovery, and that it can be life-long for anyone who desires it. I believe I will succeed because success is not how much you have but how much you can give back. I believe that addiction can be overcome and you can live a life on the road to recovery.

I believe nothing in my life that has happened was in vain and that God is using my mess as his message. I believe in forgiveness of self and others. I believe I am forgiven. I believe that life is not to be lived yesterday or tomorrow but today in the Present, God’s gift to us daily.

I am surely not sharing this because I claim my life is this pretty picture wrapped up in a big bow. No, I share because IF I speak positive then I will perform in positive ways. If my heart is grateful, then I will be grateful.

I am grateful for my life and humbled by it as well. Nothing more; nothing less. I believe in gratitude, humility, caring, responsibility, willingness, openness, and honesty. I believe that sometimes things will get worse before better, but there is always a lesson in the pain. Lastly, I truly believe there is a rainbow at the end of each and every storm.
