The next truth, “Healthy relationships are your birthright and you can achieve them.”
Yes, this is ideal, but again, as previously mentioned, what if you were born into the situation. For me, I used to make up stories in my mind, like, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were my “real” parents (for those of you from a different era, they would be the equivalent of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, but more glamorous). Like they were the “ideal” example of what parents should be! I would act out, in my mind, the scenario of how we lived in Hollywood, and we would go to work every day, on the set of some movie. What an escape, it was all so glamorous!
Reality somehow has a way of catching up with us. My father would arrive home, and reality took over! The world revolved around how bad his day had been. Thankfully, the day would eventually end when he passed out. However, when I married into the relationship, it was a manner of keeping my children safe and protected from it. The only thing I hadn’t thought of, they were born into it, and therefore, they would not be able to escape it. I see now, how their relationships have suffered, but I pray they will learn from this and grow to see they deserve better. I deserve better, you deserve better, everyone has a right to deserve and expect better. It’s going to take work, a great deal of work, but it can be done. It starts with me, and it starts with you, believing it can be achieved!
