How long have you been on your recovery journey?
I have been clean for ten years.
What is the most positive thing that has changed in your life?
There are so many, but I believe that the relationships that I have mended with my family and friends and most importantly, my relationship with God.
What led you to recovery?
I had actually ended up in jail due to my addiction and my actions. When I was in jail I got sober. As soon as I got out of jail, I went into treatment and that led me on the path to recovery.
What is one important truth that you have learned through the process?
It’s a daily walk. I continue to learn about recovery and the most important thing is perseverance.
What are you most proud of about your life today?
I am proud about my recovery, of course, but I am most proud about sharing my story about my recovery with others.
What is one of your ongoing struggles in recovery? How do you overcome that?
It is a struggle when people don’t understand about recovery. I think one of the best ways to overcome that is by educating the public to what recovery is all about.
Are there goals that you have met during recovery?
The main goal is to stay clean. I have a job, house, car, etc., but those are just material things. I am most proud of the relationships that I have rebuilt after destroying them due to my actions.
Is there a piece of advice that someone has given you that has helped you in your journey?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. You’ve got this and there is hope!
What would you tell someone that is thinking that recovery is not possible for them?
If I can do this you can do this! Recovery gives you the strength, support, and knowledge! Just take it one day at a time!
