Amanda has been on her recovery journey for six years and says that the biggest positive change in her life on the other side of addiction is that she has a relationship with God and her marriage has been saved. As an adult child of an alcoholic father and his wife, she experienced a co-dependent relationship with both. Only when she lost everything to drugs, including her mother and her husband, did she find the courage to face her problems. She had nowhere left to turn but to God and she clung to verses like Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 4:6.
Since being in recovery, she has graduated, leads a teen ministry and is working as a clinician for a residential treatment center. Today, she’s so proud of her relationship with God and others and of her ability to reach out a hand to help. It’s something she couldn’t have imagined happening six years ago, but today she knows that with God all things are possible! For others who are where she was, she has the following words of advice: “Nothing changes if nothing changes.”
There’s help out there waiting for you from people like Amanda and thousands more who have been where you are.
