My daughter wrote this on her Facebook the night of my eight year sobriety celebration :
“Eight years ago, on July 4th, my dad started a life of sobriety. What a long road of recovery. Nights and days filled with pain. Years of rebuilding our relationship and allowing it to evolve from a simple father-daughter relationship to a daddy-daughter relationship. Something I can’t explain in words. I have never been as proud of one person as I am of him today. All the meetings we attended. All the nights eating popcorn watching Rush Hour over and over just because I liked it. The time spent away from you has proven to be worth it. The times we are together mean so much more. We have each learned to be present. I was so surprised when you gave me your medallion tonight. This—something you have worked so hard for. The pleasure of receiving it is the best gift I’ve ever been given. I am so proud of how far you, we have come… The best is yet to come. I Love You, Daddy… I know you love me… I can feel it!”
