How did you hear about the Atlanta Heroes 6k?
I heard about it from some friends and decided to come out and support it. I got to carry the banner representing the treatment center that I went through. I brought it across the finish line and that was pretty cool.
Do you have a sobriety date that you’d like to share?
December 29, 2012.
What led you to recognize the need for recovery?
I just got so tired of being sick and tired, really. I finally ended up asking for help after some struggles and I finally got that help. It feels really good and I love the new lifestyle definitely.
How did your life change?
It opened up a whole new life and a thousand doors opened for me. Once I closed the door on using drugs and alcohol a thousand new doors opened and a ton of opportunities came up for me. It really taught me how to grow up and be an active member of society. I went through purple and I still try it to be active there and give back to the community as much as I can. I have some sponsees that are there and I just go back and help out any chance that I get.
What are some words of encouragement that you would give to someone who is still out there struggling?
Give it a try. Put some trust in somebody else because there is a whole community of good people who are willing to help you. It’s hard to see that at first but if you can just take that first step in there’s a lot of love behind it.
