Robin believes in supporting the community and helping others. Once she heard about the Heroes in Recovery 6K run in Memphis, Tennessee, she came out since this is what this event is all about. She has two brothers in recovery and she knows what how it can be a daily struggle. She participated for them.
One of her brothers has made it to one year of sobriety and one has five years of long term recovery from substance use disorders. Robin knows how important family is to the recovery process. Although her brothers could only help themselves and nobody could do it for them or tell them to do so, she still helped by doing some research to find places that offer help and then encouraged them with love and support to accept help. Then it was up to them to go and get it, and that’s what they did. Both of them went through a series of stumbles in their life before they reached the point where they wanted to be sober. Once they reached their bottom, they decided it was time to get back up and accepted the help that was offered.
Both brothers are younger than Robin; they were a family of eight. Their father struggled with the disease of addiction. “Once they get sober, you have to be able to trust them again and believe in their responsibility. Both of them now have jobs again,” states Robin, “They are sober, they are working, they are doing well.” She is very grateful that this happened for both of them. Since Robin took over the research and admission part once they were ready to enter the recovery process, she believed that a solution was possible. It was not too difficult to find it, in her opinion. They both just had to be ready to choose to accept it.
Robin does not live in the same state as her brothers but she is happy about the good relationship her family has today. She is happy that her brothers could become healthy again and recover from this disease. She loves to raise awareness for this cause and hopes that many more will read these stories and decide to give help a try.
