Owen from San Antonio, Texas, is 36 years of age and was an addict for 16 years on his path to rock bottom. He used basically everything except heroin and was never a friend of alcohol. He was mainly on marijuana and opioid painkillers. At his full blown height of the addiction, he took up to 30 OxyContin a day. He knows today that he could have died. He amazingly never got into trouble with the law, but he lost a marriage, fell from God, almost lost his now fiancé and his beautiful 2 year old daughter.
As he finally woke up and started to change his life, he worked 12-step programs. He hit that point where he was ready for change and describes this point in life by saying ”I experienced the awakening and started to become restored.” Owen celebrates 20 months of continuous sobriety this month.
Today he applies all the new information he has learned to all aspects of his life. He became a great dad to his little sunshine and a loving partner. Owen has a clean background and great health and is grateful for this by grace and a lot of mercy. Being asked what he would tell a newcomer who struggles with sobriety he replies, “Don’t leave before the miracle happens.”
Today Owen works, facilitates a regular 12-step group and speaks to addicts on daily basis. Also he helps a lot of addicts with his page on Facebook if they need encouragement and hope. He is very grateful that his daughter, now 2 years old, will remember her daddy as he has become, not who he was. He says, that he turn to God’s word daily for inspiration and confides in God in all he does.
