Hello, my name is Deanna, and I am here because of my beautiful mother Debbie R. Most of you know her story and learned a lot from it, and I am here to tell you how my life has changed, since she has been sober. I’m here to share my story.
Before my mom became clean and sober, she was a stranger. I didn’t know who she was. I remember a lot of the traumatic experiences that my mom went through. Those memories will always stay with me, but the good memories will take over from the bad ones. One of those wonderful, fulfilling memories is when Debbie was finally able to be my mom. She wasn’t able to do that, when I was younger. I remember always asking my family what happened to her. They had a hard time explaining to me where she was. As I got older, I learned more. There are still details that I don’t know, but that’s okay.
My mother is amazing in every way. She is beautiful, courageous, talented, brave and incredible. If I ever needed a hug, she was there. If I needed a friend, she was there. If I just needed someone to be there for me, she was there. She is still here for me to this day. I have her to thank for my awesome life, and I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like, if she wasn’t in my life. I know I’d be sad and depressed. She is with me every step of the way. She is a major source of support in my life, and I know I can go to her for anything. I know I can count on her to be there for me. I look up to her, and I look at her as a best friend. If no one is there to talk to me, she is the one who talks to me.
Everyone deserves to have that one person who they can go to for absolutely anything. I know there are kids out there who went through what I did. Some went through worse. Many kids don’t know how to cope, but there is support out there for everyone. I want you all to know that life is tough, but you have to make the most of it. Focus on the positive side, because you never know what life can bring you. Stay strong, stay confident, stay happy and stay positive. Any dream is possible, but you are the only one who can make your dreams reality.
I am so proud of my mom. She is the strongest person I know. She has been through a lot of terrible situations, but she stayed strong through everything. I may never know everything she went through, but I do know a lot of what she experienced. I will never know how she coped with it for so long. She managed to be courageous. I have never known anyone as strong as my mom. She is my role model, and she shows me the right directions to take, when I’m lost. My mom has changed my life in so many ways, and I can’t thank her enough for everything she has done for me. This is my story.
