Drug addiction changed my life. Towards the end I was drinking two to three bottles of cough syrup per day. I had a group of friends grow up around me and share the same problem. I made an honest attempt to stop on my own and found I could not. I hadn’t lost much materially, but my personal relationships and emotional health were suffering greatly. Outpatient treatment was the doorway to a 12-step program that has saved my life.
It is hard to give concrete advice because I can still remember how I thought and felt at that time. Being as young as I am, I had more mental hoops to jump through because I could not believe I had a “drug problem” at such a young age. The best advice I can offer would be to listen to the people who are closest to you and love you. Those people know you better than you know yourself a lot of the time.
My life today is amazing. I have by no means found success in every area of my life, but the gift I have today is being able to take failure in stride and not let it keep me down as I have in the past. My imagination has been set afire. Today I can go anywhere and do anything.
