This was not the first time Dolores came out to run the Heroes in Recovery 6K in Leiper’s Fork, TN. She has also helped as a volunteer at the 6K. She is part of a big running group that actively supports the cause of destigmatizing addiction, and Dolores supports people in recovery and those who are not there yet. Although Dolores is not in recovery and no one in her family is affected by addiction or mental health issues, she has a friend that struggles.
Dolores’ partner said, “We have seen people recover and get their lives back together, and this is so wonderful to watch. We love to support these efforts. A lot of mental health issues are stigmatized which prevents people from getting the help they need.” They said it is so inspiring to see how people can recover from almost anything once they decide to get help. Dolores is very happy about public events like the Heroes in Recovery 6K because it brings financial help to those who need it most, draws public attention, and helps reduce the stigma by informing people that addiction is a disease.
Dolores and her partner will always come to the Heroes in Recovery 6k in Leiper’s Fork, TN to either volunteer or run to help the cause.
