Steven is from Princeton, KY, and currently at a long-term treatment facility in Paducah, KY. He is since six years on his recovery journey. The biggest positive change in his life since he is in recovery is his personal relationship with God and all other things that come with his clean and sober life today. His love of Christ also helped him reach his sobriety. His will to live free from any substances has gotten stronger and stronger.
For many years, Steven was in and out of jails and also faced death a few times. He has learned an important truth through the process that it is important to live for today and do not look back at his past. He is very proud of his relationship with God and his faith today. It gives him the strength he needs to go strong through each day in sobriety.
His biggest problem in his life in recovery is to watch other people struggle with addiction. He wants to help people live a life in freedom, like he does today. He overcomes his troubles by remembering that acceptance is the key to happiness and freedom.
He wants to highlight the first three steps, which he works every day, as an important part of his own journey:
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
Steven wants to ask people to believe in a higher power who can and believes that it will help someone out there to reach sobriety.
