Timothy is from Symsonia, KY and is currently in long-term treatment for substance use disorders in Paducah, KY. He goes to 12-step meetings regularly and says that his outlook on life has changed a lot since he is on his recovery journey. As I met him during a picnic in the park to celebrate recovery during the month of September, he was four months into his journey of living clean and sober and really enjoying how it has changed his life. Today he has a higher power in his life and pursues his goals and dreams one day at a time.
Before he got the chance to engage in treatment, his life was always in turmoil and he was frequently sent to jail. Today he has God and sobriety in his life and he would like to tell anyone to be willing to try going the same way. “God will meet you in the trying,” he exclaims, “There is an answer.”
One of the most important truths he has learned through the process so far is that there is a solution. If he struggles in his ongoing recovery, his peers and the fellowship of the 12-step-groups help him to overcome it. Timothy is looking forward to all that life has to offer him in the future and is glad to learn steps and skills to make it a better one.
