Albert recently received the 2017 Heroes In Recovery Award at the annual Moments of Change in West Palm Beach, FL.
It was 2 years later after a temporary insanity onset happened that Albert felt like he was starting to feel “normal”.
Albert’s parents were divorced when he was 5 years old. He has a younger brother, older sister and 2 half siblings. Growing up was very hard he says. In his late teens he was diagnosed with a mental illness.
He claims that the true insanity began after enrolling in college. He eventually had to withdraw and admit to an outpatient program. It was there that he was able to accept his mental illness and learn to live life on life’s terms.
Since his diagnosis and completing treatment, Albert is now on a mission to help others.
He wants to world to know that mental illness is more than just treatable. The illness, Albert says, doesn’t define who you are. Breaking the stigma is part of his daily mission statement. Albert is one of the founders of Rutgers College National Organization, Active Minds. They have meetings weekly as well as offer therapist too for the students.
Albert received his Master’s Degree in Mathematics at Columbia University. He received a BA in applied mathematics and economics at Rutgers University. He is currently working on his Doctorate Degree and will graduate in 2019. He now tutors students in math in his minimal spare time. He is a strong advocate for mental health and considers himself a role model for others who struggle.
Albert says, “Never Give Up” to each and every person with whom he comes in contact.
