Sara’s son is currently in a long-term treatment center, and she herself has been in recovery since April 2006. Sara started several different addictions at age thirteen. Methamphetamine was the main drug she used, and she also struggled with anorexia and bulimia. Sara became tired of this life, but she knew she couldn’t stop it by herself. While trying to figure out how to get out of this life and start a different one, she was arrested. She says, “Nothing is impossible with God. He has a good plan for each and every one of us.”
Sara now works at a treatment facility for women, and she is proud that her life has a purpose and is a good example for others. Sara loves to help other people reach sobriety. She enjoys talking with clients about their struggles and using her experience, strength and hope to help them overcome those struggles. She is proud that she has been clean and sober for almost ten years now and that she also gained control over her eating disorder. Her smile reveals her enjoyment of life. She loves seeing her son reaching this point of sobriety as well and hopes he will continue on his path of success.
The best piece of advice that helped her in her recovery was advice to never, ever give up. Recovery is hard at times, but it’s worth continuing. “You can do anything with God’s help,” she says to those who are afraid they cannot walk the road to a life of freedom from substances.
