Justus just arrived the day before the Heroes in Recovery in Leiper’s Fork, TN from Arizona. It was his first run with Heroes in Recovery. He is originally from Kenya and a very fast runner. Justus first arrived in the United States in 2009 and he is now an accounting student.
Justus finished second place overall. The Men’s division was very competitive this year. He found out about our run through the internet, had no idea what it was all about, but just wanted to come and run. Justus was very pleased to learn about the Heroes in Recovery movement. He and his friends don’t use drugs or even drink and he is not aware of any one individual struggling with addiction, but he supports people who want to live active and healthy lives.
Running, in his opinion, is a very good way to clear the mind and create positive feelings for the day. He would like to encourage all people in recovery to try more exercising to improve health. Justus plans to attend next year again to support people in recovery and to help break the stigma.
