Joseph is from Kentucky and has never seen his children, twin boys, because of his addiction. He spends his life in a vicious cycle of addiction and behavioral problems, which made him lose everything he ever had. He could not stay out of jail and has learned through the process that his own thinking is his biggest problem.
Since he has no family, the fellowship in treatment and the 12-step program he attends has become his family of choice. He had been trying to find sobriety now for over three years and is glad that he finally got into this treatment facility in Paducah, KY, instead of jail. Today, Joseph feels proud that he found out he can live his life differently than before. His new found family gave him a feeling of belonging and he feels he can rely on his brothers helping him through hard times.
Not being able to see his kids is one of the biggest struggles for him. He hopes that someday it will change and he can be a positive influence in their lives. He also loves the opportunity to help others to achieve sobriety. “No matter what we did or what we do, we don’t have to live that way today anymore” is a truth he learned through the process and loves to share with others. “You can do it. It gets better over time,” he would like to tell any reader. Shane is happy about his conscious contact to God today and his clearer thinking and outlook on life.
