When I asked Jared about the biggest positive change in his life since beginning recovery, he said, “Everything!” He has four years in recovery from substance use disorders and is very proud that he made it, that he got back on his feet after years of struggle and that he is now getting his family back into his life.
Jared describes his life as being totally unmanageable before treatment. He learned a lot of coping skills during his stay so that he can take life on life’s terms without using or drinking. He still struggles at times, but praying and service work are helping him overcome his struggles. He loves to help other alcoholics and addicts get into recovery.
He finished his GED and is very proud of accomplishing this first goal towards a better future. “Every sinner has a future,” he says, and he lives in the present and not in the past. He tells people beginning their recovery journey, “There is a solution if you are willing.” His willingness got him this far, and he asks everyone to be willing to work towards a better future and towards their dreams.
