My name is Clinton Taylor. I’m a 43 year old African American male and a US Army Desert Storm veteran. After returning from combat duty, I was unable to continue serving my country because of the acute stress I suffered from. Upon returning home after my discharge, I was unable to maintain employment, relationships failed, and I struggled for years to overcome my own personal battles with drugs and alcohol. Criminal behavior that eventually led to me being sent to prison for 7 years.
While incarcerated, I successfully completed an intensive inpatient drug treatment program for 10 months. Since my release from prison 8 years ago, I have graduated from college with an A.A. degree in General Studies & a B.S. Degree in Human Development & Family Studies. I also became actively involved in my local church, providing outreach ministry to incarcerated men. And 6 years ago I started my own speaking business called “RIGHT STATE OF MIND,” a company dedicated to helping others overcome obstacles in their lives by discovering the leader within and becoming productive, proactive members of society. I speak at colleges and high schools to our young people about the advantages and disadvantages of making the right choices in life.
Since my release from prison I have successfully re-integrated myself back into society, proving that you can turn life’s stumbling blocks into stepping stones.
