I was an active addict for 22 years I made a complete mess of my life and hurt a lot of people who loved me along the way. I have been locked up many times, I have been through rehabs and lost everything… but I had to face death to get my attention.
I have been clean 14 years now, praise the Lord and the help of Celebrate Recovery.
The turning point for me was a near-death experience. I really think I was at the gates of hell.
I got saved at a church service in prison and began a long road to recovery starting with the 12 Steps, then to NA and then to Celebrate Recovery. Throughout the entire process I was building a relationship with Jesus Christ and His people.
I learned that for me I had to change everything I did and everywhere I went, along with everyone I hung out with. I had to put God and His word first in my life and make recovery meetings a priority. I also had to learn a new way of life…serving others not self.
I am free from the effects of my addiction. I am free to love myself and others. I am free to choose life and not death. I am free to be me. I am free!
