Micah has had a troubled path of recovery since he entered the process in January 2013. Before today he relapsed five times in the last three years, but finally made it to a continuous sobriety of 13 months. His turning point to reach out for help happened as he was one day at the depth of a binge and asked God to help him or kill him.
Micah received his answer in form of legal trouble about two weeks later. He was terminated from drug court and had to spend nine months in jail. God gave him a second chance by giving him the opportunity to enter a recovery center in Paducah, Kentucky. He took this chance seriously and learned a lot during his stay that helped him to stay clean and sober after he finished.
Today, Micah is proud that he learned to put God over himself and that works a 12-step program and stayed sober. He feels that he is maturing through the process. His struggles were self-doubt and fear of the future. The treatment and the 12-steps helped him to stabilize his issues.
He prays a lot, and also keeps himself occupied in order to stay out of his head. But doing the next right thing has been the most important improvement for him. He prays every morning and thanks his higher power every night.
Previously in his life, Micah was a Navy Corpsman for two years and that time is something he feels proud of. The future is unclear, but he is looking forward to new chances. “Take a step, just one, and then another” is the way he likes to face process today. “Stay attached to something larger than yourself,” he would like to tell people in the beginning of their recovery journey.
