Patricia’s drinking had become so severe that when she tried to stop drinking, she suffered from alcoholic seizures. Six months into her recovery she had a moment of clarity and realized “I no longer wanted to live the life of a drunk or an addict.” Patricia has now been on her recovery journey for over 28 years. Today she enjoys living a “sober lifestyle” and believes that all experience, strength, and hope is valuable and can benefit all people of recovery new and old.
“Being able to help others in recovery is the thing I am most proud of in my life today. I would encourage the newcomer to think everything through to its logical conclusion and see all the possible consequences.” Her ability to see the big picture and make a wise decision has been another wonderful gift of recovery and she is grateful to have the capacity to help others to do the same.
An important truth Patricia has learned through her journey of recovery that she relies on in times of struggle and hardship is she knows “that I am not in charge of my life but instead, that is the job of my Higher Power.” Reliance on her higher power and recovery has granted Patricia the ability to “live life to the fullest, and I am the person I always wanted to be…ME”.
