- Alcohol
What made you decide to come to the Clean Break New Year’s Festival?
My sponsor and friends in the program admitted me and told me about it, so I decided to come out for a good time.
What do you think about young people being in recovery?
I think it’s a great opportunity for young people to have an advantage in life and be able to succeed without alcohol and drugs. In my experience, alcohol and drugs really made it difficult for me to function and be successful in life. So it’s been really great for me to reach my full potential in recovery.
What issues have you noticed that make it difficult for young people to get involved in recovery?
In my college environment, there is an expectancy to get wasted, do drugs and party. It is just thought to be part of the college experience. Being young in college and having a lot of responsibilities, people often feel the need to unwind that way. But that has not been my experience.
What advice would you give to a young person who needs help but is unwilling to step out and ask for help?
In my experience of coming in and out of recovery, it is really hard to help people who don’t want help. You can make things available to them and you can have counseling and rehab options available to them, but if they don’t want it, its going to be really hard for them to reach for it.
