Why are you here supporting Heroes in Recovery movement?
I think it is a good cause and me being in recovery myself I think it is a good event to come out and support everyone who is in recovery and give back.
Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
I played high school football and was a high school athlete and in college. Then I hurt my knee. What I had playing sports I think I felt that way with drugs and alcohol. It has never been the same as what I experienced when I was playing sports. I’ve always lived and wanted to be the best at what I did and then when I didn’t have that anymore, partying drugs and alcohol is what I turned to. It filled the void for a little while and then it became where I had to depend on a substance just to function, just to get through every day and school work. It’s not what I wanted. Consequences started happening. You get drink, you drive, you get a DUIs, you get charges for drugs and then your life really hits rock bottom when you’re in jail and you don’t have anything but yourself. That’s not what I want for myself anymore. That’s what got me into recovery.
What has helped keep you in recovery?
What has helped keep me in recovery is giving back to newcomers. Giving back to people new in sobriety and talking them about their problems
