- Mental Health
Following several experiences seeking counseling for support dealing with personal struggles, I was compelled to return to school and earn a degree in clinical mental health with the goal of becoming a professional counselor. It has been an incredible journey, and I am honored and humbled every day by the majesty and beauty of the human spirit and that I am able to share in people’s life journeys.
The reality is that life is hard – be it routine everyday experiences or bigger bumps in the road – but it is not something one has to face alone. So much can be gained by connecting with another person, and it is through these connections that growth and understanding is fostered, which can lead to great opportunities for change. It can be incredibly difficult to reach out to another person or to ask for help, but I am constantly reminded what a gift it is every time someone entrusts me with their story or welcomes me into their life.
One of my favorite quotes reads, “As a spirit having a human experience, you can choose to not merely exist but to be fully conscious and aware of living in a limited world. When you take a conscious part in life and its multitudes of choices, you won’t let life happen to you – you will make life happen for you.” One of my choices is to allow that I don’t have to face life alone and another is to grant myself the grace to ask for others to join me in my journey. These are two of the greatest gifts I can bestow upon myself and make my own human existence so much richer than it otherwise would be.
“Sometimes it’s necessary to reteach a thing its loveliness.” {Galway Kinnell}
