Alexa describes her family as very supporting and loving, but addiction still got hold of her at an early age. She mainly used heroin, meth and Xanax to escape her life. She overdosed five times and really needed to change something. She experienced a lot of trauma in her young life, but she took the fifth overdose as a wake-up call and took a leap into a better future by seeking treatment.
Today she has over two months time clean and sober from any drugs. Alexa is very proud that she was able to kick all drugs cold turkey and for good when she made the decision to turn her life around. She is still fighting the obsession to use every day, but she has learned to overcome it by going to daily 12-step meetings. She talks a lot with other clean and sober friends in her sober living community and with therapists and peers in the meeting groups. “Do not pick up, no matter what!” is the motto that helps her stay clean. She is passionately working on her recovery and on overcoming her trauma. She is grateful for her family that loves her and supports her and for the roof over her head. Her life is good and keeps getting better.
Alexa is very proud of her looks today and how her natural beauty came back in such a short period of sobriety. She would like to urge others to give sobriety a chance for one year if they are struggling to make the decision to get clean and sober or not. It is worth trying it out and seeing what happens. She likes to tell somebody who is afraid he or she can’t do it that “You never realize how strong you are.”
