Chris saw the announcement for the Heroes in Recovery run online and decided that he wanted to be there. He father was a drug addict and alcoholic and passed away two years ago. He never made it in recovery from this disease and it was rough for Chris as he passed away. He was grateful that he had a good group of guys around him from his high school and his entire family to support him through this hard time.
He, his mother and the entire family tried multiple times to get him to stop drinking. He would do well for a while but always returned to the addiction. It was not easy for any of them and he had experienced his father’s drinking from a young age.
He found the support he needs today from his grandfather. His grandfather accompanied him to the Heroes 6k. Chris wanted to run to raise awareness and break the stigma and hopes that his attendance will do a little bit for others who need help. He has not personally experienced any problems with any of his own addictions and hopes he will stay spared from this disease. He will continue to come to this run every year in honor of his father, who died too early.
