- Drugs
For many recovery comes about due to circumstances beyond their control. That was Kara’s story. Sober a year and half now, it took repeated trips to jail to finally convince her that something had to change. At the time she felt like she just couldn’t function without drugs, but today it’s a whole different story. Since beginning her recovery journey Kara has discovered a new independence, a trait she relishes. Completing a recent 6K race is another accomplishment she’s proud of. Through the process she’s continuing to learn to keep going even when she feels like she can’t. When life gets overwhelming, Kara now knows to just take it one day (or even one minute!) at a time. While she admits she’s powerless over her disease, recovery has given Kara a new-found power over her own life.
