Taliesha’s Story
Now that she has been sober for nearly 18 months, Taliesha’s life is headed in a completely different direction than it was less than 2 years ago. Back then she wanted so badly to change, but she had no idea how. She had lost her self-respect and found herself sleeping with men just to get what she wanted, but she knew she was worth more.
Fortunately Taliesha never truly gave up on herself. She found a spot in a transitional program to help her learn to live a happy life free of alcohol and drugs. She’s learning to love herself again and setting clear goals for her sobriety, not that it isn’t hard at times. There’s the desire for instant gratification that doesn’t just go away. But Taliesha knows that God has a purpose for her, and so she turns to prayer and meditation when tempted. And if she does fall, she reminds herself that what’s important is not that she took a tumble but how she picks herself up.
What would she say to others who are where she was? “No matter how far down you have gone, God loves you and He forgives you.” Oh, and one more thing: “You are worth it!”
