I was arrested in 2008 for first degree possession of meth. I kept using, although I went to treatment for the courts. I went to court for over a year, was convicted in 2008 and went to the jail for one year. I got out and keep using and went to a women’s prison in MN for 11 months. After those months I was able to do a program for 6 months with an early release. The program was basically a boot camp for women. The best thing that ever happened to me was going to prison, as I wasn’t going to stop using until I was dead.
This is my story. I had to be locked up to surrender. I got released in March of 2011, started going to support group meetings at least once a day, got a sponsor, got involved with service and started doing the steps. I haven’t left yet. I will have four years clean and serene on October 16th, 2013 through the grace of God, prison and my 12-step group. I had a lot of close people die on me between 2007 and 2009. My father died suddenly after catching colitis in the hospital after successful prostate cancer surgery. My best and second mom, my aunt, died of cancer. I took care of her, and she died in my arms. My best friends baby who was 2 years old was beaten and murdered! These deaths were my excuse for using meth, cocaine and anything I could get to dull the pain.
I hope sharing my story helps someone!!
