Start by describing the situation that changed your life or a loved one’s life.
During my 35 years of my life, I had 25 years of drug addiction. I was brought from Brazil to the US to stop using and it never worked. I had already used almost everything out there until I was introduced to crystal meth. I felt in love with it– I was hooked badly for eight years, using every day.
It was miserable! It got to a point that I was afraid that I was never be able to stop using it. I was afraid that I was going to die if I ever stopped using… until I came to Michael’s House in Palm Springs, CA. I made it. With the willingness and the help of the crew of Michael house I did it! I was free, clean … From drug addiction. It’s possible! If I can do it, anyone can! Believe that!
Based on your situation or story, was there a turning point that prompted the need for change or help?
My mother died, and I went really deep in my addiction. I almost lost my 15 years of marriage and my kids. My family was scared of me and had lost hope. At first I decided to do it for my mother, then I realized I have to do it for myself.
How did you or your HERO get help?
Others showed me that recovery is possible, even when everything is out of control.
Based on your experience, what lessons did you learn? Do you have any advice to give?
Have faith, have willingness! Believe on the program. Accept that addiction is a disease and with the help support and most of all, willingness, recovery is possible.
If you or your loved one is in recovery, describe what life is like today.
I’m one year and four months clean today. I love myself! I love my life. I have my family back. I have my life back!
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Remain humble. Accept the thing we cannot change. God is real, but we have to do our work. Go to meetings, get a sponsor. Do the steps. Believe in yourself. It’s possible! God bless.
