OVERCOME

Race volunteer Steve found instruments of healing in a treatment program and support group ministry. As he and his wife struggled with their son’s addiction, these two organizations helped them to understand their roles in the recovery process and how to protect their family by setting boundaries. Steve says that his life is “becoming the calm after the storm.”

As parents working on their own recovery, he and his wife talk a lot, work at being transparent as a couple, and try to be on the same page. They have found that a balance of being optimistic and realistic, as well as acting instead of reacting, works for them. Giving themselves time for dinner out away from home gives them the needed privacy to talk and really communicate.

They have grown in their spiritual life and yield to God during their trials. If you are just starting this journey, Steve recommends you find a support group as soon as you can with people you can call at any time. This is not a journey to do solo.  Listen to others and take from their advice what will work for you and your family.
