Mandi participated in the Recovery Run Baton Rouge 5k to support the collegiate recovery community at LSU University and to raise awareness for people in recovery. Even she is not in recovery herself from anything. She is excited for LSU to get a program that supports people with the disease of substance use disorders to find help and to maintain their sobriety.
Her entire family is into running and even doing triathlons. It is their way to stay fit and keep an active and healthy lifestyle. She helped organize a children’s run that supports a children’s hospital and she loves to volunteer her time and her passion for running to a good cause. Professionally, she works in health care at a local hospital. She sees a lot of patients who enter the hospital in with addiction problems and she feels a great empathy for them. Through her profession she is familiar with the disease and knows how important it is for people in recovery to have a good support system in place to stay sober.
Mandi believes that runs and other sober events like this one are a great alternative for anybody who wants to live healthy and she is happy about the great turnout of people attending the run.
“Addiction today starts so much earlier. By having support in college maybe some will get sober earlier and can enjoy a better and sustained long-term recovery,” Mandi mentions.
