It feels good to be in a place where I respect my body. I want to provide things for my health that will help me to grow in ways where I am avoiding future health problems. By working on my recovery, health, wellness, and food habits I am building worth in myself; my mind, body and soul.

I have learned so much and have been so blessed to be a part of something that I have been built to do through my history of experience. Ten months ago I began a full time job in the field and have absolutely loved it. There is nothing like this position. You have to be ready for anything. I went from being a person afraid of change and worried about what comes next to acceptance.

Reach out your hand and talk to somebody! We are all touched by addiction. Whether it’s family members, love ones and friends. Maybe even “friends of a friend” everyone is affected by this mental health disease. I have a feeling there are people out there that are struggling with these problems right now.

I look back and see I had many warning signs from the universe. All the different things that had happened to me and I survived or got caught. All of these were signs I was headed against a natural flow. I was meeting resistance that was self-destructive. It could have been avoided if I would have stopped and paid more attention.

Acceptance of being an alcoholic and addict opened the door to a new life. Sharing, “I am a person in long term recovery” has brought me so much empowerment and satisfaction. It has allowed conversations to be possible. Whether it was to help others, find commonalities; share in the many pros in getting through life without using, etc. By being in recovery, and speaking out, I get to help break the stigma of addiction everyday.
